Capturing the Heart and Soul of Your Business

Monday, March 29th, 2010

People will come to your Facebook Page in one of two ways: as a Facebook participant they will land on your Wall page; as a non-Facebook participant they will land on your Landing page. (More about this in a later post). Either way, signaturephotoyou have about 10 seconds to get people’s attention and communicate quickly who you are and how you can benefit them. They will want to know in a glance what they can expect from your Facebook Page. Here’s the third writing exercise to prepare for your Page. Write a one sentence answer to each of these four questions.

What area of my expertise do I want to focus on my Facebook Page?

What do I do?

How do others benefit from my expertise and what I do?

In your answers, you can use words your customers use to describe your business. Weave key words into your answers so the search engines can find your Page. Your writing style should be personal rather than corporate. (Facebook is a social media site with the emphasis on social). A good guide to follow– answer these questions the way you would answer if a friend asked them.

Think of this exercise as preparing a 30 second commercial for the business you are promoting on your Facebook Page. Answers to these questions are the heart and soul of your business. Rework the answers several times until you feel they express the core of the business you want on Facebook.

Complete the exercise now.  For more information on details for creating your own Facebook Page, go to http://www.successfulinternettools.com/blog

Facebook Fan Pages–the Perfect Storm!

The statistics about Fan pages and its popularity should be enough to convince you

stormimagesabout the need for a Fan page for your business. Let me share with you another reason. Facebook Fan pages are the perfect storm.

Internet Travels

When we look at the recent history of the internet, we  see we have traveled a long road in a short time. Less than five years ago it was mandatory for a small business to have a website, if for no other reason than to get credibility with your customers.

Because of the static nature of websites, they did not produce the results they promised. Most business owner never made changes to their sites. These sites were left behind by the search engines because they lacked any fresh information..

Websites gave way to blogs and their ability to constantly add fresh information. Blogs were also interactive and allowed people to participate and comment. The internet became a two-way street.

Blogs have their limitations. Most small business owners don’t like to write. It’s difficult to maintain weekly blog postings.

Blogs were followed quickly by other social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. These sites started as social sites and then became commercialized. Building relationships was easier than writing blog posts.

Twitter is called a micro blog because Tweets can be done in 140 characters or less. And those Tweets don’t have to be heavy duty content.

Facebook Fan Pages

Now we have Facebook Fan pages, the commercial side of Facebook. . It offers the best of the many internet worlds. It can look like a website; it can offer all the tools a website can offers: videos, photos, audio, shopping carts, etc.; it offers fresh materials like blogs and discussion groups with interaction between participants. It can be short and sweet like Twitter. The Status Updates are directly picked up by Google making a Fan page a very power SEO tool for higher rankings on the search pages.

Another unique aspect of a Fan Page is its Newsfeed. Most of the time, we do internet searches to find information. What if, instead of us looking for information, it would come directly to us? What if, we could control what information we want presented to us? Facebook’s Newsfeed does this exact function. Information comes to the participants instead of them chasing after it.

When participants find good information, they share it with their friends through the social networking of Facebook. Now we can tap into the viral nature of the internet to aid our small businesses.

The Perfect Storm

If you already recognize the limitations of a static website but don’t want to throughout everything a website can offer, a Fan page is the answer.

If you recognize the amount of work involved in keep a blog current, but don’t want to throw out the blog value for participation, fresh information and developing a reputation for your expertise, than a Fan page is your answer.

If you want to tap into the social nature of the internet but are tired of the noise you must endure, then a Fan Page is the answer.

Conclusion

At this point in time, Fan pages make the best of the internet developments and leaves behind much of the internet weaknesses. It’s the perfect storm.

In the next post, I will give you another reason why Fan pages will become essential to your marketing in the future.

Can You Ignore a Facebook Fan Page for your Business?

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Over the past 15 months, I have used my Successful Marketing Tools blog to discuss major social media sites. I wrote a complete series on Linkedin—the professional social media site. ( You can see the ten top Linkedin tips here http://successfulinternettools.com/linkedin/) I did a series of posts on Twitter, a great social media site to let people know about your business and begin the relationship process with potential customers. (You can see the ten top Twitter tips here:

http://successfulmarketingtools.com/wordpressblog/top-ten-twitter-tips/).

In the last series of posts, I looked at YouTube and the absolute marketing power videos can add to your small business operations. (You can see the top ten tips here http://budurl.com/10videotips.

The one major social media site missing from my posts is Facebook. It’s now time to look at the largest social media site in the world.

Face book images (2) Facebook

Facebook has become the largest and fastest growing social media site in the world. It has over 400 million participants. Unlike other social media sites, over 50% of the participants are active. Active means spending 25-55 minutes per day on Facebook. On many days Facebook surpasses Google’s for hits and involvement.

Facebook Fan Pages

In the last year, Facebook has opened wide the commercial aspect of its site. Once you have a profile on Facebook(your personal Facebook page), you can create a business Fan page. For all practical purposes, this Fan page can look and act like a website for your business. It can have all the functions of a sophisticated website, like video, photos, interactive discussions, shopping carts and much more. Fan Pages are free.

Many experts are predicting that Facaebook Fan pages will overtake Google as the number one commercial site on the internet. I will discuss these reasons in up coming posts.

Conclusion

As a small business owner, you need to ask yourself the question, “Can I afford not to have a Fan page for my business?” If Facebook is where the market place has gone, what will happen to your business if you do not have a presence in this market place?

In the next two posts, I will share two additional reasons why Fan pages are perfect for small business owners.

How to Create a Video Montage

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

The more entertaining you make your marketing video, the more likely they will be passed from person to person.  Creating an entertaining video montage is much easier than you think.  You will have fun and success the first time you try it.

Start by going to http://www.onetruemedia.com

This is a free program.  You start by clicking on the Create button and adding photos to your montage. These can be photos and or videos from your computer or if you have already created montages on the One True Media site. you can select from previous photos or videos.

Once you have uploaded photos and videos, you can click on the Edit and Sequence button.  This allows you to see your uploaded videos/photos and arrange them in any order you want.  You can also add a text slide at the beginning or anywhere in your sequence of photos.  You have the ability to change fonts, sizes, etc. in the editing portion.

In the next step you want to pick your Style or template.  If you just played your uploaded photos, they would appear one after another.  By using a style or template you can create a cool mix of other images blended together.  You have about 40 different styles to choose from.  You can preview them and see which one fits the montage you are creating.  When you find one you like, click Select.

You will notice that you get different music with each style or template.  You also have the choice of picking your own music.  You will see a complete list of songs that you can use to accompany your montage. Experiment until you find a combination you like.

You can then go back and edit your sequence of photos again.  Mixing and matching the music you want for various parts of the montage.

Once you complete your montage, you can Share it.  One True Media gives you many ways to do this.  You can down load it.  You get the embedded code and URL so you can place it on your website.  You can send it to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube; you can also email it.

This program is free.  They do have a paid version that costs about $39.99 per year.  With the paid version, you get fancier options for all the steps involve.  Try the free version and see what you think.  Below is a montage I created with a few vacation photos and a video.  It took me 20 minutes to create.  Enjoy and try this for yourself.
